STIR-FRIED SEASONED RICE STICKS

INGREDIENTS :

907g rice cake sticks, 1 onion (large), 1 carrot, 1 stalk of spring onion, 1 cup of sesame seeds, 1T oil.


SEASONINGS:
1T korean chili paste, 1T sesame oil, 1T korean malt syrup.

PREPARATION :

1. Soak rice cake sticks in cold water to soften for 6 hours; Lift the rice cake sticks up; Separate the rice cake sticks; Drain.
2. Rinse spring onion and drain; Cut off the ends; Chop.
3. Peel, rinse and julienne a carrot.
4. Peel, rinse and julienne an onion.
5. Heat a non-stick skillet over a high heat; Add sesame seeds; Stir-fry over a high heat till dry; Turn to a medium heat; Stir-fry till golden and fragrant with a crackling sound (around 20 minutes); Turn off the heat.
6. Heat a non-stick skillet with 1T oil over a high heat; Turn to a low heat; Add the onion and carrot; Stir-fry over a low heat for 6 minutes; Add the rice cake sticks; Stir-fry over low heat briefly; Add seasonings;
Stir-fry over a low heat for 5 minutes; Cover the skillet with its lid; Cook over a low heat for 2 minutes; Uncover; Add most of the spring onion; Stir-fry over a low heat for 3 minutes; Turn off the heat; Arrange in serving plates; Sprinkle with the sesame seeds from the step 5; Garnish with the remaining spring onion; Serve hot.
